Black and White Wedding Photography

It has been much too long since I have given this blog attention and I apologize for that.  As some of you know I recently bought my first house and it has certainly been keeping me busy.  Thinking of buying a foreclosure?  If so, then you might want to hire someone to write your blog because your free time will disappear.  Not to worry though as it appears that my head is above water again. The roof is standing and I have had some time to revisit  images to post for your enjoyment.

Obviously not every image I take gets shared with you.  Maybe I should share more images?  Today I  spent some time going through images from a wedding last year and converting them to black and white.  I sometimes like to take colorful images and make them b/w to see the results .  I find that you get less distracted by the colors and focus more on the story or textures.  It is amazing the way we develop an image can change its feeling.  Most of the time I like to create a clear colorful images or a black and white.  I think this differentiates me from photographers who will batch process their images with “actions.”  Programs that spice up the images.  I feel that these have their place, but will never run these actions on a photo willy nilly.  They must be deserving of it.  Every image deserves to be developed properly.  Some of them deserve extra processing., but never should they be edited without a thought of what the images are trying to capture.

Why do you love photography?

For me photography is my creative outlet.  Most of the activities I really enjoy require intense focus.  Kayaking a rapid.  Skiing the diamonds.  Studying nature as I am hiking.  Obviously I love being outside and a bit of adrenaline, but I really love the focus.  The clearing of the mind.  Photography allows me that focus and to be creative with it.  When I am not taking photographs I am thinking about taking photographs.  I am observing the lighting and envisioning where I would grab that perfect image.  Would this angle or lens create a better image?  Does this need more light via a flash or 2?  How do I want the light to fall to create the emotion I want to convey?  My creative side always breaks through.  I think my photography shows this.  I am all about the light and the composition.  It is my style no matter what my subject matter.

The photographs become a means to remember the stories that make up our lives and that is why I love them and photography.  It is always about the moments… stories.. art.
